Best Medicare Advantage Plans in Anne Arundel County (2026–2027)

Bottom Line

For Anne Arundel coverage, compare available plans' annual premiums with medical spending limits; lower premiums may leave more exposure in a costly year. Confirm doctors and prescriptions before choosing, and use separate 2027 documents for next year's coverage.

For Anne Arundel County, CareFirst Essential is a useful starting point if you want a $0 plan premium and PPO coverage. Kaiser Permanente High MD deserves comparison if you can pay more monthly for a lower medical spending limit. The best choice depends on which plan covers your doctors and prescriptions at costs you can manage.

If you are also reviewing life insurance for your family or estate, comparing guaranteed universal life rates is a separate coverage and budgeting decision. Keep that decision separate from your Medicare selection.

A verified 2026 shortlist

The figures below apply to January–December 2026 coverage and were checked September 17, 2026. They are published plan terms, not personalized quotes or announced 2027 benefits.

We selected four individual plans from two insurers to illustrate different premium, medical-cost and network tradeoffs. Each plan’s linked Summary of Benefits includes Anne Arundel County in its service area. This is a selective starting list, not a countywide ranking. A complete comparison requires your address and personal coverage needs.

When comparing Medicare Advantage plans in Maryland, use your county, actual providers and full prescription list before favoring an insurer. For your final decision, prioritize access to necessary care, expected annual spending, exposure in a costly year, and then extra benefits.

2026 plan and identifier Monthly plan premium In-network medical out-of-pocket maximum In-network primary care / specialist visit
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Advantage Essential, PPO — H7379-001 $0 $8,300 $0 / $45
CareFirst BlueCross BlueShield Advantage Complete, PPO — H7379-002 $42 $7,300 $0 / $35
Kaiser Permanente Medicare Advantage Standard 2 MD, HMO-POS — H2172-022 $38 $8,900 $5 / $40
Kaiser Permanente Medicare Advantage High MD, HMO-POS — H2172-002 $104 $5,700 $5 / $30

All four include Part D prescription coverage. The medical limits exclude Part D drug spending. Your Part B premium remains an additional obligation, including with a $0-premium plan, unless assistance pays it for you.

Which tradeoff fits your budget?

Lower premiums or lower costs when you need care?

Essential merits consideration when preserving monthly cash flow matters and its network and drug coverage fit. Complete costs $504 more over a full year, calculated as $42 × 12. Compared with Essential’s benefits, its published in-network medical maximum is $1,000 lower and its specialist copay is $10 lower. That does not establish overall savings: compare your likely visits, tests and prescriptions.

Within Kaiser’s pair, High costs $792 more annually than Standard 2: ($104 − $38) × 12. Its medical maximum is $3,200 lower. High therefore deserves attention from someone comfortable with Kaiser’s care arrangements who values a lower limit in a year with substantial covered medical spending. These are calculations from published terms, not predictions of your savings.

How much flexibility do you need?

CareFirst’s combined in-network and out-of-network medical limits are $13,300 for Essential and $12,300 for Complete. Their published out-of-network specialist coinsurance is 50% and 40%, respectively. Check the provider’s willingness to see you and the expected bill before relying on that flexibility.

Kaiser’s HMO-POS plans generally use plan providers, with specified exceptions. Their point-of-service travel benefit has service and geographic restrictions. If you spend months outside Maryland, check coverage for your actual destination and ongoing care.

Check your Anne Arundel doctors and hospitals

Begin checking whether your doctors are in-network by searching the insurer’s directory for the exact plan, office location and coverage year. Then ask both the practice and insurer to confirm participation for your intended start date.

A local document check found both Baltimore Washington Medical Center in Glen Burnie and Luminis Health Anne Arundel Medical Center in Annapolis in the hospital section of Kaiser’s 2026 Medicare provider directory, page 727. The directory is dated October 1, 2025; this establishes what the document lists, not a fresh confirmation from either hospital.

A hospital listing also does not confirm every physician who works there. Check your primary care clinician, cardiologist or other specialists, hospital, laboratory and preferred rehabilitation facility separately. Include any Baltimore or Washington specialists you already see.

Record the plan identifier, provider address, date checked and confirmation reference. Ask about accepting new patients, specialist referrals and prior authorization for planned treatment. Keep those answers with your comparison; a familiar insurer logo is insufficient.

Check drugs by strength, quantity and pharmacy

The posted 2026 CareFirst Essential/Complete formulary, printed page 63, lists Eliquis 2.5 mg and 5 mg tablets on Tier 3. It lists quantity limits of 60 tablets per 30 days for 2.5 mg and 74 tablets per 30 days for 5 mg. This is a documented formulary example, not a personalized pharmacy price.

The two CareFirst plans also price Tier 3 differently: Essential lists 20% coinsurance, while Complete lists a $47 copay for a 30-day standard-retail supply during initial coverage. Both have no prescription deductible. These are benefit schedules; obtain an estimate for your actual prescription.

For every prescription, record its exact name, strength, form, quantity and refill schedule. Check the formulary for prior authorization, step therapy and quantity limits, then compare your pharmacies. A covered drug can still produce different spending depending on the plan and pharmacy.

Enter the complete list in Medicare’s plan comparison tool and compare estimated annual drug costs. No personalized drug-cost search was run for this page.

For 2026, covered Part D drugs have a separate $2,100 annual out-of-pocket threshold, after which covered Part D drugs cost you $0 for the rest of the year. That protection is separate from each plan’s medical maximum.

Compare the alternative coverage paths

As you explore Medicare coverage in your state, distinguish Original Medicare’s hospital coverage, Part A, and medical coverage, Part B, from private Medicare Advantage coverage. Original Medicare can be paired with Medicare Supplement insurance, also called Medigap, and a standalone Part D plan. Medigap helps with Original Medicare cost sharing; it does not pay Medicare Advantage copays.

If keeping broad access to Medicare-accepting providers matters, compare that alternative before enrolling. Annual Medicare open enrollment generally does not guarantee access to Medigap without health underwriting. Separately, Maryland’s birthday rule helps existing Maryland-issued Medigap policyholders switch to equal or lesser benefits during its birthday window. It is not a general first-time Medigap enrollment right.

If you have Medicare and Medicaid, separately examine Medicare Advantage options for dual-eligible beneficiaries. You must meet the particular D-SNP’s eligibility requirements and live in its service area. Ask which D-SNPs serve your address and how each coordinates Medicare and Medicaid benefits with your current providers.

Choose the correct coverage year and enrollment window

You need both Part A and Part B to join Medicare Advantage and must live in the plan’s service area. Enrollment also requires an applicable enrollment period.

  • October 15–December 7, 2026: Changes generally begin January 1, 2027. Compare official 2027 documents before choosing; the table above describes 2026.
  • January 1–March 31: People already enrolled in Medicare Advantage can switch Advantage plans or return to Original Medicare and obtain standalone Part D coverage.
  • Other enrollment opportunities: Initial enrollment or a qualifying Special Enrollment Period may allow a change outside those windows.

Changes during the January–March Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period generally begin the following month.

Prepare a comparison you can act on

Build two budgets: expected annual spending and a year with substantial medical needs. Include plan premiums, prescriptions and medical cost sharing, while keeping your Part B premium in the household budget. Check hospital stays, imaging and therapy—not just office visits. Value dental or hearing benefits only after checking covered services, limits and participating providers.

If you want to work with a Maryland Medicare broker, ask which Anne Arundel County Medicare Advantage plans they can compare and enroll you in, and which insurers their comparison excludes. For free, confidential counseling, Anne Arundel County SHIP helps with Medicare Advantage, Part D and supplement choices.

To compare local Medicare Advantage coverage options, assemble your county and ZIP code, provider addresses, prescription list, pharmacies, current coverage and intended start date. Request a side-by-side comparison of two or three finalists showing confirmed provider participation, annual drug estimates, medical spending limits and coverage rules. Choose only after those details fit the care you expect to use.
